A group of researchers at the University of Bristol have spent the last 6 months exploring how local pubs provide an important social space for older men and can help reduce loneliness in later life. They have met with men 65+ who frequently go to pubs and with people providing support to older men in the community to discuss their ideas. This resulted in a ‘design a beermat’ competition and a ‘Beermat(es)’ game aiming to initiate conversation between pub goers.
